🌿 Afterschool Program FAQ
What happens if it rains or there is inclement weather?
Our programs run rain or shine! In the event of rain or intense weather, our Naturalists utilize nearby indoor and covered spaces such as public libraries, local museums, and natural shelters (like redwood groves) to stay dry while still offering engaging, active programming.
We may also be able to use space on campus, depending on school access. If weather requires a change in plans—such as a modified agenda or pickup location—we always communicate updates to families via email ahead of time whenever possible.
We do not replace programming with screen time or videos—campers stay active, curious, and engaged.
Can I pick my child up early?
Yes! Our standard pickup window is 5:45–6:15 PM, but we understand families sometimes need flexibility.
If you anticipate an early pickup:
Please notify the Naturalist team ahead of time
Communicate directly via text or call if needed
You may meet the group at their current location, or we can help arrange a designated early pickup spot when possible
Clear communication helps ensure a smooth and safe pickup.
Where is end of the day pickup located, and what is the process like?
For McCoppin, pickup is at 8th Avenue & Fulton Street, a location chosen in collaboration with the PTA. This spot offers:
A grassy meadow where the group can gather
Access for cars, walking, and biking
Space for families to comfortably meet staff and campers
During the first week of programming, we actively gather feedback from families about the pickup location. If adjustments are needed, we are open to shifting to a nearby spot that works better for the community. Detailed pickup instructions are also shared in the welcome email after registration.
Can my child attend only one day per week? Can i adjust our enrollment days?
Absolutely! Families are welcome to:
Start with one day per week
Add additional days later as long as space is available
This flexibility allows families to ease into the program and adjust schedules as needed.
How many children are in each group? What are the staff ratios?
We maintain small group sizes with experienced Naturalists:
TK / Kindergarten: Max 6 campers per 1 staff
1st–5th Grade: Max 16 campers with 2 staff (1:8 ratio)
These ratios allow us to provide attentive supervision and meaningful connections with each camper.
What if I register and later find the program isn’t a good fit?
We do have a cancellation policy that goes into effect once programming begins. However, because this is a pilot program, we are currently more flexible than usual.
When space allows, we are happy to help with:
Switching enrollment days
Transfers
Other adjustments
Our goal is to support families and find solutions whenever possible.
Do you offer financial assistance?
